Description
Faber DPS — Deep-Penetrating Water-Repellent Treatment for Natural Stone & Agglomerates
Standard water-repellent sealers work well on clean, dry, unaffected stone. They penetrate into the surface micropores and deposit their water-repellent chemistry within the material. But on stone that already has salt efflorescence in its pores, rust staining from moisture contact, or persistent damp damage — standard treatments cannot penetrate effectively. The existing contamination blocks the pathways the sealer needs to reach.
DPS is engineered specifically to overcome this. Its unique solvent-based formulation achieves high penetration even through existing salt deposits and efflorescence — reaching deep into the material structure where the protection is needed most. For stone restoration professionals dealing with humidity-damaged installations, DPS is the treatment that works when others won’t.
The Key Differentiator — Works on Already-Damaged Surfaces
This is what sets DPS apart from every other product in the Faber sealer range:
| Situation | Standard Sealer | Faber DPS |
| Clean, dry new installation | Penetrates effectively | Penetrates effectively |
| Surface with existing efflorescence | Blocked — cannot penetrate through salt deposits | Penetrates through existing salt/efflorescence |
| Surface with rust or oxidation damage | Limited penetration near affected areas | Reaches through rust-contaminated zones |
| Stone with persistent rising damp history | Surface-level protection only | Several millimetres depth — full structural penetration |
| Surface to be ground/polished after sealing | Protection removed by mechanical process | Depth means protection survives grinding |
LEED BD+C V4 Mapped Equivalent Position
DPS is the solvent-based counterpart to the water-based rising damp sealers in the range. For comparison:
| DPS | Hidro Protector MM | Hidro SST | |
| Formula | Solvent-based | Water-based | Water-based |
| Penetration | Several mm — exceptional | Deep | Deep |
| Works on pre-affected surfaces | Yes | Limited | Limited |
| VOC content | High | <0.05% | <0.05% |
| LEED mapped | No | Yes | Yes |
| Food contact | Not stated | Yes | Yes |
| Shelf life | 12 months | 36 months | 36 months |
Choose DPS for restoration of humidity-damaged stone where maximum penetration is required and solvent-based chemistry is acceptable. Choose the water-based range for LEED-specified projects, food contact surfaces, and new installations.
Penetration Depth — Survives Grinding and Polishing
DPS penetrates the material for several millimetres — significantly deeper than surface-applied sealers. This depth has a practical professional implication: if the treated stone needs to be mechanically polished or lightly ground after treatment, the water-repellent protection survives the process. The protection is in the stone, not on it.
This makes DPS particularly useful for restoration work where polishing follows treatment, or where a surface showing efflorescence needs to be cleaned and then protected through the same treatment in a single operation.
Key Features
- Works on humidity-damaged surfaces — penetrates through existing salt efflorescence, rust, and oxidation where standard sealers cannot
- Several millimetres penetration depth — protection survives subsequent grinding and polishing operations
- Excellent anti-rising properties — blocks continued moisture migration through the stone body
- Invisible finish — no film, no colour change, natural appearance maintained
- Breathable — moisture vapour passes through the treated surface
- UV resistant and non-yellowing — suitable for exterior applications
- Wet-on-wet second coat — second coat applied immediately crossing the first for maximum penetration
- Indoor and outdoor use
- Shelf life: 12 months — shorter than other products in the range; check date before ordering in bulk
Before use:
- Keep away from all heat sources, sparks, naked flames, and heated surfaces. No smoking.
- Keep container tightly closed. Store in a well-ventilated, cool, locked location.
- Ensure thorough ventilation — dangerous vapours accumulate rapidly in enclosed spaces
- Do not apply in presence of rain, frost, mist, fog, or high humidity
If swallowed: immediately call a Poison Centre or doctor. Do NOT induce vomiting.
PPE required: Protective gloves, protective clothing, eye protection, face protection.
Equipment cleaning: Clean all tools immediately with white spirit.
Suitable Surfaces
Natural stones, marble, limestone, travertine, granite, agglomerates. Indoor and outdoor.
How to Apply
Surface Preparation
- Clean thoroughly, removing all dust and loose debris.
- Never apply to wet or damp surfaces. Apply at surface temperatures between +5°C and +35°C.
- Do not apply in rain risk, frost, mist, or high humidity conditions.
- Protect adjacent surfaces not being treated.
Application
Always test on a small, unexposed area before treating the full surface.
- Apply an even, generous coat to the clean dry surface using a brush, roller, lambswool applicator, or cloth. Ensure full, even coverage.
- On highly absorbent materials, apply a second coat immediately (wet on wet), crossing the direction of the first coat for maximum penetration.
- Wait 10–15 minutes after the last coat for product penetration.
- Remove any residue with a clean dry cloth. On compact surfaces, a single-disc machine with a soft white pad can assist residue removal.
- The product is fast drying — within 1 hour of application.
- Open to foot traffic after 4 hours.
