Description
Faber Deep Enhancer Black — Pigmented Stain-Proof Impregnator for Black Low-Absorption Stone
Black stone surfaces present a specific challenge for colour enhancement. Standard water-based colour enhancers struggle to penetrate the dense, compact structure of polished granite, polished marble, quartz agglomerates, and porcelain stoneware — either sitting on the surface and leaving residue, or failing to deliver the colour depth the stone is capable of. Deep Enhancer Black solves this with a solvent-based formula engineered specifically for low-absorption materials.
The high-quality black pigments in the formulation penetrate even the densest stone micropores, filling micro-defects, crackling, and surface inconsistencies that cause light to scatter and make black stone look grey or uneven over time. The result is a full, deep, uniform black — consistent across the whole surface, without patina, without film, and without altering the stone’s natural ability to breathe.
Why Solvent-Based for Low-Absorption Surfaces
Water-based impregnators and colour enhancers rely on water as the carrier to deliver their active components into the stone. On highly absorbent surfaces — sandstone, unpolished limestone, terracotta — water carries the product in effectively. On compact, low-absorption surfaces like polished granite, polished porcelain, and quartz agglomerates, the water carrier cannot penetrate and the product sits on the surface instead of within it.
Solvent-based formulas use hydrocarbon solvents with lower surface tension and higher penetrating power, allowing the active components and pigments to enter even the densest stone structures. Deep Enhancer Black is specifically formulated for this — it penetrates where water-based products cannot, delivers black pigment deep into the material, and then the solvent evaporates leaving the pigment and protection in place with no surface residue.
What Deep Enhancer Black Does
- Uniform full-black finish — high-quality black pigments penetrate and even out the colour across the whole surface, eliminating the grey, dull, or patchy appearance that black stone develops over time
- Covers micro-defects and crackling — fills surface imperfections in black materials that create visual inconsistency
- High stain resistance — hydrorepellent and oleo-repellent protection against water, oil, grease, and everyday staining agents
- No film formation — penetrating treatment preserves the natural texture and breathability of the stone; no patina, no greasy feel
- UV resistant and non-yellowing — suitable for outdoor applications; will not fade or change hue under UV exposure
- Vapour transpiration maintained — the stone continues to breathe after treatment
Suitable Surfaces
Black marble, polished and brushed travertine, polished and brushed granite, quartz agglomerates, polished porcelain stoneware. Indoor and outdoor.
This product is designed for low-absorption, compact surfaces. For higher-absorption black stone, standard colour enhancers or the Faber P147 may be more appropriate.
⚠️ Important Safety Information — Solvent-Based Product
Deep Enhancer Black is a solvent-based product and must be handled accordingly. It carries the following CLP hazard classifications:
- H225 — Highly flammable liquid and vapours
- H304 — May be fatal if swallowed and enters airways
- H336 — May cause drowsiness or dizziness
- EUH066 — Repeated exposure may cause skin dryness or cracking
Before use: Keep away from all heat sources, sparks, naked flames, and heated surfaces. Do not smoke. Ensure the work area is thoroughly ventilated. Do not induce vomiting if swallowed — seek medical attention immediately.
PPE required: Wear gloves, eye protection, and appropriate respiratory protection in enclosed spaces. Follow all instructions in the Safety Data Sheet.
Flash point: 30°C (open vase) — the product reaches its flash point at a temperature commonly encountered in summer working conditions. This requires particular attention on warm days and in enclosed spaces.
How to Apply
Always test on a small, unexposed area before treating the full surface.
- Ensure the surface is clean and completely dry. Never apply to wet or overheated surfaces.
- Apply Deep Enhancer Black undiluted to the surface using a brush, lambswool applicator, roller, or cloth. Ensure even, full coverage.
- Wait 10–15 minutes for solvent evaporation — the exact time depends on the absorption capacity of the surface.
- Remove residue using a scrubbing brush, or a single-disc machine fitted with a cotton cloth or blotting paper. Remove all product excess until the surface is dry to the touch.
- Wait a minimum of 4–6 hours before reopening the area to foot traffic.
If a second coat is needed (on more absorbent surfaces): wait at least 30 minutes after the first coat before applying the second.
Equipment cleaning: Clean all application tools immediately after use with white spirit.
