Description
Faber A2 MIX — Professional Universal Polishing Powder for Calcareous Stone
Restoring gloss to marble, limestone, or travertine is a two-part problem: removing the dullness and replacing it with a finish that lasts. Polishing compounds that rely on wax solve the second problem temporarily — but wax wears off under traffic, clouds with cleaning products, and eventually requires stripping and reapplication. A2 MIX takes a fundamentally different approach.
Developed by Faber Chimica — Italy’s leading tile and stone care specialist — A2 MIX is a high-performance powder for wet polishing that chemically interacts with calcareous stone rather than coating it. The result is a deep vitreous finish with exceptional clarity and gloss that is inherent to the surface, not sitting on top of it.
How the Vitreous Effect Works
Calcareous stones — marble, limestone, travertine — contain calcium carbonate, which is reactive to the controlled acidic compounds in polishing powders (pH 2.0 ± 0.5). When A2 MIX is worked into the stone as a creamy paste at 150–200 rpm, it simultaneously micro-abrades surface irregularities and triggers a chemical interaction with the calcium carbonate. This produces crystallisation at the surface level — a deep, glass-like vitreous effect that wax cannot replicate and that holds up under real-world conditions.
Key Features
- Wax-free vitreous polishing action — chemically reacts with calcareous stone to produce deep, durable gloss with no coating, no film, and no yellowing risk
- Universal calcareous compatibility — marble, limestone, travertine, marble-cement agglomerates, and marble-resin agglomerates
- Exceptional gloss clarity and depth — restores surface brilliance comparable to a new installation
- Good dirt and foot-traffic resistance — the crystallised surface is harder and more resistant than the original dulled stone
- Indoor and outdoor use — suitable for both interior floors and exterior stone surfaces
- pH 2.0 ± 0.5 — controlled acidic formula for effective calcareous stone interaction
- 48-month shelf life — exceptional stability in sealed storage
- Professional grade — used by stone restoration contractors, heritage restorers, and commercial floor care specialists
Suitable Surfaces
- Marble — all types and colours
- Limestone
- Travertine
- Marble-cement agglomerates
- Marble-resin agglomerates
- Other calcareous lime-based stone materials
- Indoor and outdoor surfaces
Not suitable for: granite, slate, sandstone, quartzite, porcelain, or ceramic tile. For non-calcareous stones and porcelain, see Faber Universal Glossy.
Ideal Applications
- Full gloss restoration after diamond grinding or resin pad sequences — pass each section 20–25 times with the single-disc machine
- Maintenance polishing to refresh vitreous gloss between major restoration cycles — 10–15 passes per section, slightly less powder
- Dulled or heavily trafficked marble and limestone floors in commercial environments
- Heritage and historic stone restoration projects
- High-end residential and commercial installations — hotel lobbies, showrooms, galleries, reception areas
How to Use
Surface Preparation
- Clean the surface thoroughly, removing all dust and dirt from prior grinding or sanding stages.
- Work in sections of approximately 2 m² at a time.
- Never apply to wet surfaces — slightly damp is acceptable but the surface should be as dry as possible.
- Apply at surface temperatures between +5°C and +40°C.
- Protect any adjacent surfaces not being treated.
Application
Always perform a preliminary test on a small, unexposed area before treating the full surface.
- Pour 2–3 spoonfuls of A2 MIX powder onto the section to be treated.
- Add water to create a creamy, fluid paste — approximately 2 spoons of water per spoon of powder as a starting guide.
- Apply immediately using a single-disc machine fitted with a white polishing pad, set to 150–200 rpm. Work evenly across the section, passing over each area the same number of times.
- If the paste becomes too dry during application, add a small amount of water to restore the creamy consistency. Do not allow the product to dry out during working.
- Continue buffing until maximum gloss is achieved. Check progress by removing a small area of product with a squeegee to assess shine level.
- Once the required shine is achieved, vacuum or remove all residue. Move to the next section.
For full restoration after grinding: pass over each section at least 20–25 times. For maintenance polishing: 10–15 passes per section with 1–2 spoonfuls of powder is sufficient.
Resuming Surface Use Remove all residues, rinse the surface thoroughly with clean water, and the floor is ready for use.
Recommended Application Equipment
- Single-disc machine with minimum 1.5 HP (2.2 HP recommended for best results)
- White polishing pad
- Set machine to 150–200 rpm
- Manual rotary brush as an alternative for smaller areas
