Description

Faber B1 700 — The Colour-Neutral Stain-Proof Impregnator for Limestone and Natural Stone

Sealing limestone is one of the most common stone care decisions that goes wrong. Standard sealers — particularly solvent-based colour enhancers — are absorbed readily into limestone’s fine calcareous micropore structure and darken the stone visibly and permanently. Light cream limestone becomes tan. White limestone develops a yellow cast. The stone that was chosen for its clean, pale tone is changed irreversibly before the installation is even complete.

B1 700 is Faber’s solution. Specifically developed for surfaces prone to colour change when protected — with limestone explicitly called out in the TDS — it delivers professional stain resistance without any tonal shift whatsoever. The stone looks exactly as it did before treatment.

Fast drying (30 minutes), ready for use in 2–3 hours, UV resistant, and non-yellowing — for both indoor and outdoor applications across the full range of natural stone and agglomerate surfaces.

Why Limestone Specifically Needs B1 700

Limestone sits at a particular intersection of surface properties that makes sealer selection critical:

  • High to medium-high absorption — most standard sealers penetrate rapidly and deeply before excess can be wiped away
  • Fine calcareous micropore structure — absorbs solvent carriers and any tinting agents within them, causing permanent darkening
  • Pale colour range — even a slight tonal shift is highly visible on cream, beige, and white limestone
  • Sensitive to acid — cannot be treated with crystallising products that work on marble

B1 700’s clear, colour-neutral formulation is calibrated to provide stain resistance in this challenging profile without the darkening that other products cause. It is the safe choice for cream limestone floors, white limestone bathrooms, pale sandstone facades, and any application where protecting the appearance is as important as protecting the surface.

B1 700 in a Dual-Protection System

B1 700 delivers stain resistance but does not provide water repellency. For applications where both stain protection and water repellency are required — exterior limestone paving, facades exposed to rain, terracotta in wet environments — B1 700 can be used in combination with a water-repellent treatment:

  1. Apply a high-penetrating water-repellent sealer (such as Faber Hidro 150 or Hidro SST) first
  2. Allow to dry completely
  3. Apply B1 700 over the top for stain protection

This layered approach delivers comprehensive dual-function protection from two compatible, non-reactive products.

Key Features
  • Colour-neutral — specifically developed to avoid the darkening that affects limestone and pale stone when sealed; no tonal shift, no colour cast
  • Fast drying — 30 minutes to dry; 2–3 hours to resume normal use
  • High stain resistance — resists water, oil, grease, and everyday contaminants
  • UV resistant — suitable for exterior applications without degradation
  • Non-yellowing — formula stable over time
  • Penetrating formula — no surface film, breathability preserved
  • Combinable with water-repellent treatments — compatible layering system for dual protection
  • Indoor and outdoor use
  • 24-month shelf life

Suitable Surfaces

Marble, sandstone, limestone, granite, slate, basaltina, quartzite, porphyry, travertine, cotto, terracotta, marble-resin agglomerate, marble-cement agglomerate, quartz-resin agglomerate. Indoor and outdoor.

⚠️ Important Safety Information — Solvent-Based, Extremely Flammable

B1 700 is a solvent-based product with a flash point below 21°C — classified as extremely flammable under CLP.

  • Keep away from all heat sources, sparks, naked flames, and heated surfaces
  • Do not smoke during or near application
  • Ensure thorough ventilation — dangerous vapours accumulate rapidly in enclosed spaces
  • Do not apply in presence of rain risk, frost, mist, fog, or high humidity
  • Wear appropriate PPE: gloves, eye protection, and respiratory protection in enclosed spaces

Equipment cleaning: Clean all tools immediately after use with white spirit. Water will not clean solvent-based product from application equipment.

How to Apply

Surface Preparation

  • Clean thoroughly, removing all dust and residues.
  • Never apply to wet or damp surfaces.
  • Apply at surface temperatures between +5°C and +35°C.
  • Protect adjacent surfaces not being treated.

Application

Always test on a small, unexposed area before treating the full surface.

  1. Apply a thin, even coat to the clean dry surface using a brush, roller, lambswool applicator, or cloth. Ensure full coverage.
  2. The product dries very quickly without leaving residues. If any residue appears, remove with a clean dry cloth.
  3. On particularly absorbent surfaces, apply a second coat — wait at least 30 minutes between coats.
  4. Surface is ready for use after 2–3 hours.

If combining with a water-repellent treatment: Apply the water-repellent sealer first and allow it to dry completely before applying B1 700 over the top.

FAQ –

Why does limestone darken when sealed?

Limestone has a fine calcareous micropore structure that absorbs solvent carriers and tinting agents from standard sealers rapidly and deeply. Once absorbed, these compounds alter the tone of the stone permanently — light cream limestone can darken to tan, and white limestone can develop a yellow cast. Faber B1 700 is specifically formulated to provide stain resistance without carrying any tinting agents into the stone, delivering full protection with zero colour change.

Does Faber B1 700 make limestone waterproof?

No. B1 700 provides stain resistance against water, oil, grease, and everyday contaminants but does not provide water repellency. For applications requiring both stain protection and water repellency — exterior limestone paving or facades exposed to rain — B1 700 should be used in combination with a water-repellent impregnator. Apply Faber Hidro SST first, allow to dry fully, then apply B1 700 over the top for stain protection.

Can Faber B1 700 be used on exterior limestone?

Yes. B1 700 is UV resistant and suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications. For exterior use where both stain and water protection are needed, apply a water-repellent impregnator first before applying B1 700. Do not apply in conditions of rain, frost, mist, fog, or high humidity, and ensure surface temperatures are between 5°C and 35°C.

How long does Faber B1 700 take to dry?

Faber B1 700 dries in 30 minutes. The surface is ready for normal use after 2 to 3 hours. On particularly absorbent surfaces a second coat can be applied — allow at least 30 minutes between coats.

Is Faber B1 700 safe to use on marble?

Yes. B1 700 is suitable for marble, limestone, sandstone, granite, slate, travertine, quartzite, cotto, terracotta, and marble and quartz agglomerates. Its colour-neutral formula makes it particularly valuable for pale and sensitive stone types where tonal change from sealing is a concern. Always test on a small inconspicuous area before treating the full surface.

What cleaning products can be used on limestone sealed with Faber B1 700?

For daily cleaning of limestone sealed with B1 700 use Faber Neugel or Faber Algafloor — both are pH neutral and safe for sealed limestone. For periodic heavy-duty cleaning use Faber 30 or Faber Deterfug depending on the nature of the soiling. Avoid acidic cleaners, vinegar, and bleach on sealed or unsealed limestone as these will etch the calcareous surface.
