Description
Faber Limestone Densifier — Hardening Sealer & Polishing Aid for Limestone Floors
Limestone is one of the most challenging natural stone materials to work with. Its high porosity means it absorbs water rapidly — from the polishing process, from adhesive and grout during installation, from the substrate below. Its relative softness compared to granite or quartzite means polishing tools wear faster and the polishing process takes longer. And its sensitivity to moisture means that once laid, problems compound over time: persistent damp staining, salt efflorescence, surface flaking, and pitting.
Limestone Densifier addresses all of these in a single treatment. A water-based, VOC-free impregnating formula that penetrates deep into the stone structure, it hardens the material from within — chemically binding within the pores to increase surface hardness and abrasion resistance — while simultaneously providing water-repellent protection that prevents moisture ingress from any direction.
The Polishing Process Application — A Game-Changer for Floor Sanding Contractors
The most commercially significant capability of Limestone Densifier is its integration into the mechanical sanding and polishing workflow. Most contractors polish limestone with water, moving through successive grit sizes. The problem: limestone absorbs the polishing water rapidly, slowing drying between stages, increasing tool friction, and extending the time needed to reach a high finish grade.
Applied at the correct stage of the polishing sequence, Limestone Densifier transforms this process:
When to apply: Apply after preliminary dry sanding with 200–400 grit. If wet sanding was used first, wait 24–48 hours (or apply Limestone Densifier before the first mechanical polishing grain to limit water absorption from the start).
What changes:
- The densifier penetrates the stone, hardening the surface and reducing its porosity
- Friction between the polishing tool and the stone decreases significantly — machines work faster, operators cover more area per hour
- Water absorption during polishing is dramatically reduced — drying between stages accelerates
- Diamond pad wear is significantly reduced — tool life extends across the job
- The amount of water needed to complete the job decreases
How to continue: After applying Limestone Densifier, continue with the next grit up from where you stopped before application. After reaching 800 grit, the surface can move directly to chemical finishing products such as A2 MIX, A3 Yellow, or Cristalfab White Pad — with a better, more consistent finish achieved than would be possible without densification.
The practical outcome for contractors: larger areas treated in the same time, lower consumable costs, and better final results.
Rising Damp & Pre-Installation Protection
Beyond polishing, Limestone Densifier provides the same pre-installation 6-side treatment capability as the Hidro Protector range — specifically calibrated for limestone:
| Treatment | Sides | Adhesive Requirement |
| Full 6-side treatment | Top + edges + bottom | High-quality adhesive or mechanical fixing |
| 5-side treatment | Top + edges | Top-quality mortar or mechanical fastening |
Pre-installation treatment protects the stone from the earliest stages — preventing moisture absorption from adhesive, grout, and the substrate below during installation. Limestone is particularly vulnerable during this phase because of its high absorption rate.
24 hours must be allowed after pre-installation treatment before laying tiles or slabs.
The Stain-Proof Primer Function
Limestone Densifier also acts as a primer for subsequently applied stain-proof treatments. By densifying and partially filling the stone’s pore structure, it controls the depth at which the stain-proofer sits — rather than being absorbed too deeply into a highly porous stone where it cannot function effectively. The result is improved stain protection from the same volume of product.
Apply Hidro 150 or B1 700 after Limestone Densifier treatment for the highest combined performance from both products.

Suitable Surfaces
Limestone and particularly absorbent lime-based materials. Indoor and outdoor.
Note: This product is specifically developed for limestone. For other natural stone types, see Hidro Protector MM, Hidro SST, or Protex WB.
How to Apply
For Use as a Polishing Aid:
- Sand the surface dry with 200–400 grit.
- Apply an even, generous coat of Limestone Densifier using a roller, brush, lambswool applicator, or airless system.
- On very absorbent surfaces, apply a second coat after 1–2 hours.
- Allow at least 4 hours before proceeding to the next grit — overnight is recommended for full cure.
- Continue with the next grit up, using water. After 800 grit, move to chemical polishing products.
For Pre-Installation Treatment (6-side):
- Apply an even coat covering top and edges of the slab or tile. After 5–10 minutes, redistribute any residue.
- Wait 1–2 hours, then treat the bottom.
- Remove residues with a white pad or damp cloth before boxing up.
- Wait 24 hours before laying.
For Post-Installation Water-Repellent Treatment:
- Apply to the clean, dry surface. Redistribute residues within 5–10 minutes.
- Remove residues with a white pad or damp cloth. For large areas, use a single-disc machine with white pad.
- Allow 24 hours cure — protect from water and moisture during this period.
